Privacy Policy
We collect only what we need to operate our business and deliver your software. We never sell your data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and how to control it.
1. Who We Are
Ctrlbus Audio LLC is a Texas limited liability company located at 9901 Brodie Ln, Ste 160 PMB 7012, Austin, TX 78748. We operate ctrlbus.com and develop audio software products including RootControl. Contact us at hello@ctrlbus.com.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Purchase Information
When you purchase RootControl, our payment processor (Stripe) collects your name, email address, payment information, and billing address. We receive your name, email address, and transaction details. We do not receive or store your full payment card details — these are handled entirely by Stripe.
2.2 Account Information
When you create an account at ctrlbus.com/account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. Your account is used to manage your license activations and download your purchases.
2.3 License Activation Data
When you activate RootControl, the plugin transmits to our licensing server:
- A hashed machine fingerprint (a one-way hash derived from CPU identifiers, MAC address, and OS volume serial — raw hardware IDs are never transmitted or stored)
- Your license key
- Operating system type and version
- Plugin version number
- Activation timestamp
This data is used solely for license validation and anti-piracy enforcement.
2.4 Website Analytics
We may collect anonymized usage data about how visitors use ctrlbus.com, including pages visited, time on page, and referrer. This data does not identify you personally.
2.5 Communications
If you contact us at hello@ctrlbus.com or support@ctrlbus.com, we retain the content of your communications to resolve your inquiry.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To deliver your software and license key after purchase
- To validate your license and enforce activation limits
- To provide customer support and respond to your inquiries
- To send transactional emails (purchase confirmation, license delivery)
- To detect and prevent fraud, piracy, and abuse
- To comply with legal obligations
We do not use your information for advertising. We do not sell your data to third parties.
4. Data Sharing
We share your information only with:
- Stripe — payment processing. Subject to Stripe's Privacy Policy.
- WyDay / LimeLM — license key management and activation validation.
- Cloudflare — website hosting and security. Subject to Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.
- Law enforcement — when required by law or to protect our rights.
5. Data Retention
We retain your account and purchase information for as long as your account is active and for 7 years thereafter for tax and legal compliance purposes. License activation records are retained for the life of your license. You may request deletion of your personal data at any time (see Section 7).
6. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including HTTPS/TLS encryption, hashed passwords, and hashed machine fingerprints. Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe and never touches our servers.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate personal data
- Request deletion of your personal data (subject to legal retention requirements)
- Object to processing of your personal data
- Data portability

8. Cookies
ctrlbus.com uses minimal cookies necessary for site functionality (session management, security). We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. You may disable cookies in your browser settings, though some site features may not function properly.
9. International Transfers
Ctrlbus Audio LLC is based in the United States. If you are located outside the US, your information may be transferred to and processed in the United States, where data protection laws may differ from your jurisdiction. By using our services, you consent to this transfer.
10. Children's Privacy
Our services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, contact us immediately.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by posting a notice on ctrlbus.com. Continued use of our services after changes constitute acceptance of the updated policy.
